USP is the highest-ranked university in the QS Latin America & The Caribbean Ranking, published today, October 3, by the British consultancy company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). In second place is the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC Chile) and in third place is the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp).
In this 14th edition, the ranking evaluated and classified 437 institutions from 23 countries in the region. Brazil is the country with the most ranked universities, with 96 in total, followed by Mexico, with 63 universities, and Colombia, with 61. In addition to USP and Unicamp, two other Brazilian institutions are in the top ten: the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), in 5th place; and the Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), in 8th.

USP also came out on top in five of the eight indicators evaluated: academic reputation, articles per professor, reputation among employers, international research network, and impact on the internet.

International highlight
USP has also achieved outstanding positions in other rankings released by QS this year. In the QS World, considered one of the main international university rankings, USP was ranked 92nd, remaining in the top 100 for the second year running.
In the QS by Subject, released on April 10, USP was among the best universities in the world in 44 out of the 55 specific areas evaluated – and in 16 areas it was among the 50 best in the world: Dentistry (13th position); Anthropology (23rd); Petroleum Engineering (24th); Agriculture and Forestry (32nd); Mining Engineering (34th); Nursing (34th); Civil and Structural Engineering (38th); Architecture (39th); Social Politics and Administration (42nd); Sociology (43rd); Archaeology (44th); Sports (44th); Pharmacy and Pharmacology (44th); Environmental Sciences (44th); Law (45th); and Modern Languages (46th).
In 28 specific areas, the University was ranked between 51st and 100th; in four areas,
among the 150 best; and in one area, among the 200 best.
The specific areas are grouped into five major areas and USP is among the top 100 in the overall ranking of all five: Social Science and Administration (41st), Arts and Humanities (46th), Life Sciences and Medicine (44th), Natural Sciences (58th) and Engineering and Technology (57th).
