On November 11, the Chinese consultancy Shanghai Ranking released its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024, which ranked more than 5,000 universities in 55 areas of concentration in Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences.
USP is among the top 50 institutions in the world in nine areas of concentration: Agricultural Sciences (11th place), Dentistry (11th), Pharmaceutical Sciences (11th), Ecology (16th), Public Health (22nd), Textile Engineering (29th), Mechanical Engineering (39th), Food Engineering (41st), and Oceanography (46th).
In four other areas of concentration, the University is in the group that ranks between 51st and 75th place: Physics, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, and Veterinary Sciences.
And in the areas of Earth Sciences, Mining Engineering, Human Biological Sciences, Clinical Medicine, and Nursing, USP is in the 76-100 group.
The ranking analyzes bibliometric data, considering indicators such as teaching quality, faculty quality, research results, and the size of the institution. The ranking by area of concentration has been published since 2009.

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is a side of the Academic Ranking of World
Universities (ARWU), published since 2003 by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and
considered one of the forerunners of university rankings.
