The Integra Brasil Network – composed of USP (the coordinating institution), the Butantan Institute, the State University of Goiás (UEG), the State University of Roraima (UERR), and the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid (UFERSA) – was one of 23 proposals selected for the Institutional Internationalization Networks Program (Capes Global).

The projected funding for the network is R$ 25 million per year, which may be used for fellowships in Brazil and abroad, support for participation in scientific events, and international working missions. The program will run for five years.

“The selection represents significant recognition of USP and its partner institutions in promoting the internationalization of science, innovation, and the training of highly qualified human resources, strengthening Brazil’s presence in global research networks and academic cooperation”, said Rodrigo Calado, USP’s acting provost for graduate affairs.

In addition to strengthening the internationalization of Brazilian graduate programs, Capes Global also promotes scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation among different regions of Brazil, fostering knowledge exchange, regional integration, and sustainable social and scientific impact.

According to Calado, “Following the program’s guidelines, the Integra Brasil Network was built upon partnerships that USP had already established with universities in the North, Northeast, and Central-West regions, aligning interests and developing a joint proposal”. He added that, “Beyond internationalization initiatives, the network represents an opportunity to strengthen ties and enable our talents to circulate among the various regions of Brazil”.

The network will operate in five strategic thematic areas: Sustainable Well-Being, Prevention and Precision Medicine (BESPMP); Climate, Territory, Life and Sustainability (CTVS); Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HACS); Biotechnological Innovation and Genomic Strategies in Sustainable Agricultural Production (IBEGPAS); and Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development (TI-SDGs).

Calls for proposals are planned in the following categories: Sandwich PhD Abroad, Visiting Professor, Staff Training, and International Missions. Activities are expected to begin in the latter half of 2026 and continue through 2031.

The Institutional Internationalization Networks Program (Capes Global) is an initiative of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), created to integrate institutions with different levels of internationalization, promoting scientific collaboration between Brazilian universities and international partners.

Each network must be composed of four to six institutions, including one coordinating institution, and must engage in innovative and interdisciplinary projects aligned with national public policies and the United Nations 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The projected investment is R$ 350 million per year. The program includes fellowships in Brazil and abroad, support for participation in scientific events, and international working missions.
