Last Thursday, January 6, a delegation from the University of Barcelona visited USP to discuss academic and scientific collaboration.
The group was led by the institution’s president, Joan Guardia; the vice-provost for Internationalization Policy, Raúl Ramos Lobo; the chief of staff, Ander Errasti Lopez, and the delegate of the Government of Catalonia in Brazil, Paula Mèlich Bonet.
The entourage was received by the president of USP, Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, and by the chairman of the USP Agency for National and International Academic Cooperation (Aucani), Sérgio Proença. During the meeting, the participants discussed possible projects to expand the universities’ partnership, such as exchange programs for researchers and participation in events. Those present also exchanged experiences on topics common to the realities of the two institutions, such as the challenges of internationalization, science funding issues, and attracting talent. Carlotti presented examples of other initiatives that USP has already been developing jointly with foreign organizations from countries such as France, Germany, China, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
Ibero-American Union
Founded in 1450, the University of Barcelona is one of Spain’s oldest and most prestigious. Internationally recognized for its excellence in research and teaching, the university is among the best in Europe and the world.
The institution is part of the Ibero-American Union (UIU), a network established in 2016 by five universities in Latin America and Spain: USP, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Unam), the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and the University of Barcelona (UB), to develop joint research, teaching and researcher mobility programs.
In March 2024, at a meeting held in Mexico, the presidents of the universities that are part of the UIU discussed actions to strengthen the alliance at a time of resumption after the COVID-19 pandemic.
