USP and the University of Illinois System (United States) signed an academic cooperation agreement on July 1 to promote the exchange of visiting professors from the University of Illinois to USP, contributing to the academic training of graduate students, the development of collaborative research projects, and the strengthening of academic mobility between the institutions.
“This agreement has a direct impact on graduate students, as visiting professors from Illinois will take part in courses, supervise research projects, and engage in discussions of results. It’s an opportunity to expose our students to an increasingly international research environment on USP’s campuses,” says Rodrigo Calado, Provost of Graduate Studies.
Ten professors from the North American university will be invited to serve as visiting professors at USP, with stays of up to three months, starting in July 2025. USP will fund the cost of airfare, provide support for international health insurance, and offer a mobility fellowship grant, as established in Resolution No. 7.192/2016, which regulates the Fellowship Grant Program for Visiting Professors.
Interested professors should contact the Brasillinois Program, an initiative of the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp) in partnership with the University of Illinois System, that aims to promote student and faculty mobility and foster collaboration in areas such as climate and sustainability, medicine, public health, and social inclusion.
The selection will be carried out by the University based on merit, potential for research collaboration with USP professors, and affinity with the interests of the receiving academic department. Priority will be given to early-career researchers, those within ten years of earning their doctorate, but the opportunity is also open to tenured professors of all ranks.
The University of Illinois System comprises the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Illinois Chicago, and University of Illinois Springfield.
