USP’s Medical School (FM) has become the first higher education institution in Latin America, and the second worldwide, to be recognized as a reference in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The distinction was granted by Google for Education and presented at the company’s headquarters in London, England, during Bett UK, considered the largest international event in the education sector.
The school was represented by professor Matheus Belloni Torsani , Head of the Academic Division and director of the newly established Center for Artificial Intelligence at the school , who presented institutional data, experiences, and results related to the application of AI in medical education. The initiative stems from a strategic partnership with Google, developed in collaboration with Rodrigo Pimentel, Director of Google for Education in Latin America, and Felipe Neves, Head of Google Gemini for Education in the region, who have been directly involved in consolidating and expanding AI projects at the institution.

“Such international recognition highlights the school’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation applied to teaching, while reaffirming our role in training professionals prepared for contemporary healthcare challenges. The responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in the educational process aligns with the school’s institutional mission and our vocation to lead transformations in medical education”, stated professor Eloisa Bonfá, dean of the Medical School (FM).
During the institutional agenda in London, the school’s representative also held a meeting at the headquarters of Google DeepMind, an internationally recognized research center for advanced artificial intelligence solutions. The meeting aimed to discuss possibilities for scientific and educational cooperation to strengthen the school’s Center for Artificial Intelligence.
