For the second year in a row, the University of São Paulo continues to be the national public institution with the highest number of courses rated as excellent, according to the Estadão’s Guia da Faculdade. In the 2024 edition, out of 142 undergraduate courses at USP, 116 achieved the maximum score of five stars in the ranking.

The São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (Unesp) ranks second among the best public universities in Brazil, with 57 undergraduate courses rated as excellent, followed by the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), with 51 courses. Together, the three São Paulo institutions are responsible for one in every four five-star courses in the country.

The guide also ranks private educational institutions. In 2024, the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC), in several of the states evaluated, had 57 courses with five stars. 

To collect the data, Guia da Faculdade invites all universities registered with the Ministry of Education (MEC) to take part in the process. The evaluation is carried out by more than 10,500 volunteering coordinators and professors, and each course is evaluated by six of them, who give marks from one to five in three criteria:Pedagogical Project, Faculty and Infrastructure.
